After 10 days of kilometer-picking it was time to speed up a little bit again. The Sie&Er-Race in Prater was a good opportunity for that, with 4 km on pancake-flat asphalt for both of us. Like last year we opted for me on the first leg and David on the second. Last year I ran 16:10 and David 12:05 and of course the goal was to equalize or improve those times. Once a competitor, always a competitor, even if it's just training. The conditions were great, 12-13°C, quite sunny, dry and with no wind, and with a place quite in the front (ha, this time I succeeded in getting in there;)) it was just to let the legs run when the start shot fell. I felt really good and could run my own speed all the way. From Km1 to Km3 I struggled a bit with my main running technique problem - I lean backward instead of forward, which isn't exactly effective.. Anyone got a good idea how to get rid of this problem? - but from Km3 to the finish it was ok and I could keep a good speed. Clocking in on 15:18 created a big, big smile on my face. David did his job well too, improving with 1 second (ok, his time was maybe also a "little bit" harder to improve, I'll admit that;)) so we reached the 4th position. Last year we were 2., but the field was quite much better this year, so place nr.4 ist fine. This weekend has, next to the training, been a weekend of paper work, finishing off a lot of "to do's". With NY Marathon on the telly and a big pot of tea next to me actually a relaxing activity. |
